Veiled – a poem

Veiled

My spoken truth, to you, a sword

Cutting, slashing the delicate cloth

Sewn loosely around us

Threads fall like autumn leaves

Tears drip with every syllable

Staining the earthy hues

Your shield is dented, but thick

I beg of you to lower it

To see your veil

You edge backward

Pulling the fabric

Tighter now around my wounded heart

The words cannot be swept away

My sheath discarded

Our love, indeterminate
